Mason Moonshiner, My epi-dogLiving with an epi dog: our life and experience as we experience canine epilepsy |

December 15 Just another dayNo ill effects from the bug bait - I really think it must have been my non epi boy Blue who got into it. the reason I think this? there was plastic left - Mason would have probably ate the plastic.
Recently I've noticed a lot of epi's losing their battles - its tough - and i notice it kind of happens in waves. Is it the moon, Is it solar storms, what is it... Its like work - even at work I notice waves of increased preemie births... curious - and i know there are a lot of theories out there..and one more probably won't make any difference and I'm sure others have already thought of it. ....oh well... keep up the research and keep up the faith we can fix this.
I've now seen a child have a seizure - and i knew what that mother was feeling - that scared helpless feeling and I knew what to say and how to help - well as much as I could. so you think ....things happen for a purpose... just wish sometimes they didn't. did I learn how to help mason so i could help this parent cope better? I dont know..but it felt good to be able to help in a small way.
well all is well - he still gets that spazy look and suck that duck toy - and I wonder if something else is going on in that head of his. December 10 bug bait....okay so it's a good thing I don't write much on this blog.... if I did that means we were still in the scary stage of canine epilepsy or like many I know that have to deal with seizures very often - we're the lucky ones.....
Tonight we came home from dinner at my parents to find little bits of plastic all over the kitchen floor - have no idea what it is..... did my research and realize one of them had gotten into some old bug bait - we had left the laundry door open (that won't happen again). We don't know which dog and the fact Mason is prone to anything abnormal setting him off - I had a short burst of panic then did my reserach - they were acting fine so I knew I could breathe and find some answers. $60 to call the animal poison control line - so forget that - I went online for answers. Apparently the biggest concern was if they had ate the plastic. They did not but Dave is going to watch for constipation and abdominal pain just in case. Both dogs are over 70 pounds - that was definitely in our favor tonight. So I gave them burnt toast (I had read that since we didn't have active charcol - and mashed potatoes - a bit of milk as well. We'll have to watch them for toxic symptoms but so far so good. I also gave them rescue remedy - and so now they're pretty much zoned out. Mason woke up and gave me an evil look saying "I know you drugged me". I wish I had the camera for that one.
So it's been probably 2 hours and they're doing fine. The information online says it'll take 30 hours to get out of their bodies but so far so good. I'll be back online sooner than later if there is an issue but I don't expect it at this point.
all is well and so far seizure free since May (knock on wood). September 25 Mason's vet visitFor those that are curious to the outcome of Mason's vet visit today....
some of you already know that Blue has been licking Mason ecessively - in his mouth on his nose, ears ..... to the point Mason was biting him to stop. Dave called the vet - "bring him in - probably an infection". So blue looks out for his brother after all!!!! So we loaded up both boys just in case he needed to see Blue. So while Dave and Blue enjoyed the cool weather outside me and Mason went in to see the vet.
yep typical ear infection again - figured that was coming - I treat his ears monthly. However trying to explain why Blue is licking inside his mouth - he had a yeast smell so the vet checked his gums, his teeth and his throat - the conclusion - he has yeast infection in his stomach!
so we have to flush his ears daily and then quirt stuff in his mouth daily.... for a week.
and you ask a yeast infection in his stomach???? who didn't..... what we figure is that he eats so much grass for who knows what reasons lately that it just may be fermenting in tehre... I dont know - I didn't get a chance to ask what would cause it... it's something he ate i'm sure or eating.
We'lll have to see how he does in a week and if Blue stops licking him to death - it's driving us crazy!
and fyi it's Mason's 5th Birthday September 26th - tomorrow! We'll celebrate Blue being 4 too. We're planning on all natural ice cream treat - he can't have anything else anyways. and fyi with the food and the green beans he only lost a pound!!!! that's it!!!!! oh well at least it's in the right direction! September 22 No news is good news as always!!! but you gotta laughWell things have been going very well! Actually the last full moon I didn't even give him Pb at all - and he was fine. I think to the key to Mason's seizures is keeping him somewhat calm - calm as you can get for a husky! But I had to get online today to share something funny. Since it's cooler, the boys are much more active and love to go on their walks. It was after 10 before we went out last night - we have to walk later and later since I have two little hooligans - and since I no longer have the weight advantage of these two they can drag me wherever they choose - it's best not to run into anyone else while walking! So we're at the house and our neighbors have automatic sprinklers - Mason saw they were on and so they drag me to the neighbor's yard where Mason decides to stand over the sprinkler and let it spray his underside for a good few minutes - I was doubled over laughing cause I couldn't move him off the sprinkler to save my life!!! LOL okay so if you don't find that funny - I guess you had to be there to see how he was standing and that face! LOL I bet that really cooled him off! I normally wipe his paws, wash his face and wet his belly as soon as we get inside the house - but I didn't have to wash his belly last night!
He turns 5 years old this week - Friday! It's hard to imagine that my little boy is grown now. I can honestly say I truly believe he has lost weight since starting the Solid Gold food and the green beans daily - He must feel better as well - he is more playful and loves to play when I get home - and runs a bit more in the yard with Blue - he sitll doesn't have the energy Blue has and gets wore out pretty fast - seems pretty typical for an epi from what I hear. He is such a momma's boy! The biggest issue right now is that Blue constantly licks Mason's face - Mason hates it - and bites him to stop and he just keeps licking and licking and licking - no matter how much we tell Blue to stop he just keeps going. Not sure if I mentioned here on Mason's blog about Blue - the vet says he isn't the smartest dog in the pack and with his eyes not being totally focused - he acts pretty much on instinct and he is difficult to train due to that - so he acts then maybe listens....so training him has been pretty impossible - he does what he does - barks, sniffs, whatever - like I said Hooligan! But I love 'em both!
I finally ended up losing it with one of my neighbors the other night - he always lets his dogs run loose while he jogs the neighborhood - well both of his dogs were in my yard - on my porch and Blue went bonkers of course - so I yelled some not so nice things out the window. I've printed out the leash law from the town's website and I do plan to put in in his door - hopefully I'll get by there soon.
Well I'm in clinic and our first patient is here so I better sign off for today. Hopefully I can keep this updated a bit more than I have - but it's now time to plan Halloween - yep having a party this year - and we'll see how it goes with the boys and lots of people....should be quite the blog the day after! LOL
until next time..... all is well...! August 31 Hard RockWell nothing new to tell...kind of. Mason was on the Pb while I was out at MB this weekend to enjoy the Hard Rock Park. The food begging I come back to is a bit of a pain though. And to think last week he was just starting to calm down while eating again - he acutally walked away from his bowl the other day with food in it.... that hasn't happened since this all started.
The trip to the Hard Rock Park was awesome - check out the blog - they gave us special seating and I partied...I did miss my boys but I had the best time at that park yet!
Check out www.hardrockparkblog.com/?p=692 for info on what a great time I had and see if you can find me in the pic! LOL
